  1. Perfectly sounds that you are a soul where music meets maths which requires creativity as well as logical power to emblem them. God bless you dear, Riya Pisimoni.

  2. Soham, hidden under your tagline is an unfathomable depth.

Understanding the symphony of patterns in music intrigued mathematicians for ages.It is a virtually unending road with an incredible scenic beauty, and an intellectual pursuit of the highest order.  Many of its mysteries involve a journey through several areas of mathematics, physics and perhaps even neuroscience.
The American Mathematical Society has a page that curates many interesting links on this subject; check it out in your spare time. Most of the math used in this field may be taught at college/university level, but the inspiration is certainly level-independent :)

    1. As always, loved your elegant comment! So different from others!

Btw, who are you Infinity? Do I know you?

I had briefly glanced through the site of AMS, when I was in search of my tagline. The site is indeed a goldmine! Some of the audio-visuals are amazing! When I go to college, I would like to be a member of AMS. They do have students’ section with very interesting set of articles.

You know what? On AMS site, I would have loved to see more presence of one of our greatest Indian Musical instrument – the ‘Tabla’. Whenever I look at the great music maestros playing ‘Tabla’, I feel like actually they are solving complex problems based on number theory by using the rhythms.

Pls watch my Guru Pt. Kumar Bose playing with number theory with his dancing fingers-

    2. The reason the Tabla isn't mentioned on the AMS links is perhaps because the majority of the participating mathematicians are more familiar with instruments more commonly played in the west.

You probably heard about Manjul Bhargava, a Fields medalist at Princeton, and certainly one of the greatest number theorists of our time. He also happens to be an avid tabla player. While his actual research is far beyond my reach, in his public lectures I heard him talk about mathematics pervading the rhythms of tabla. Some of that should be on the internet, and you may find something interesting there.

    3. Soham, we are complete strangers. I came across your blog from a forwarded message on a whatsapp group, and I was instantly impressed by your overall depth.

I see that you crossed ICSE very recently. That likely puts me in your parents' generation :)
I wish you the very best for your road ahead; stay humble, spread love and work hard - you'll reach the stars.

And yes, your guru Pt Bose is mesmerizing - what can I say?

    4. Very glad to receive your excellent comments. Thank you!

Yes, I am aware of Prof. Bhargava and his thoughts on the relationship between 'Tabla' and Mathematics. He nicely expressed that during an interview on NDTV that is available on internet. He is disciple of Ustad Zakir Hussain. When I grow up, I shall try to explore this area in greater detail. For that reason, I have to learn complexities of mathematics thoroughly. However, even at a basic level if you observe the notations of music, these look like similar to mathematical graphs of discrete functions in two dimensional X-Y coordinates.

Pt. Kumar Bose is amazing and he loves his students a lot. My father took me to him when I was very young. He is disciple of legendary Pt. Kishan Maharaj from 'Banaras Gharana'. My ancestors are from Varanasi and my grandfather knew Pt. Kishan Maharaj very well. I have also passed my 'Sangeet Bhusan' in Tabla from 'Pracheen Kala Kendra', Chandigarh. For over a year, I have not been able to go to my Guru due to my busy schedule with studies. Sometime in future when I get some time, I wish to again start practicing 'Tabla'.

We might have been strangers earlier but, not now anymore. You know so much about my interests. Please keep in touch and send me your comments on my blogs. I really appreciate your thoughts.
